This political cartoon represents Nixon being tangled in the webs of the tapes of the voice recordings.  Nixon had no explanation for the tapes and why he was recording his conversations.  Throughout the scandal Nixon seemed suspicious to everyone because he was becoming tangled in all the lies he told to keep his reputation.  Eventually he couldn't untangle himself from the web and resigned due to risk of impeachment.  He looks very uncomfortable and thats they way Nixon was when the scandal occurred.  He could not longer run away from the problem he faced.  The tapes in the left side of the picture haunted him.  The scandal changed the way sociey looked at Nixon.  He had to resign himself before being impeached which was his way of saving himself.
