Current citizens who experiencd some of these events
1. Virginia Reischl
Mrs. Reishl was in her teens when all of the change occured in the United States.  Her dad was gone for two tours in the war.  Her mom was a single parent for a long time.  Many soldiers would send casette tapes to their families back home.  There were no dads in the city of Long Beach because they were all at war.  Many wore their MIA and POW bracelets and never took them off.  Watergate was very much hated during this time.  Many people did not like the tourists visitung the Western White House.  The economy during this time was very bad.  The gas shortage was well needed.  Everyone recieved their gas based on their license plate number.  Odd numbers were some days and the even numbers were other days.  The lines were so long according to Mrs.Reishl.

2.Jr Longdon

Mrs Longdon lived when the country was very political.  It was the norm and everyone was aware of what was going on in the United States.  The government made the decisions and the people never had a say.  Segregation was not right in the the eyes of the society.  People constantly critized the government.  Mrs. Longdon  believed that the Vietnam War should have never happened.  Many people died and there was no win.  Many were unappreciative when the war ended.  The Watergate Scandal was very wrong.  It was the first time a president was caught.  It was the first time any president was caught in a politcal arena.  Noone was scared of the unknown.  Nixon's presidency was a scandal waiting to happen.  She was too young to remember and unable to remember what was going on during this time.

3. Marion Forker

Mrs. Forker was a mother of 40 years old during the 1960s.  She never paid attention much to the politcal views during this time.  Hippies were in and that was the atmosphere in the United States.  Everyone despised the Vietnam War.  They were upset because they had just finished a war then turned around and entered a new one.  People liked Nixon when he entered office but soon hated him when the Watergate Scandal occured.  Drugs were starting to appear during this time.  The economy was suffering and lost alot of money during the war.

4. Mrs. Haselton

Mrs. Haselton had different experiences during this time.  The economy was looking up for everyone during this time.  Houses were on sale for a cheaper price and everyone could buy more.  Everyone was well off during this time.  Everything seemed depressing though and Americans did not know where to turn.  She was a Republican who voted for Nixon.  She was in favor for him and what he wanted to do with the country.

5. Gerald Forker

He was a young boy who delivered newspaper daily to houses.  He remembers seeing ribbons tied on doors to honor those who were dead.  He never realized the symbols until later.  He remembers no one loving that the United States went to war.  Watergate was a big uproar in many households.  The economy was ok but it was typical for families to be split.  Parents would smoke around their children. Some would never see them for days.  It was a very different lifestyle back then, then it was now.
